HAIKOU, May 14 (Xinhua) -- Hainan, the southernmost island province of China, has donated 30,000 disposable medical masks to its sister state Penang, Malaysia, local authorities said.

The masks are expected to arrive in the Malaysian state within three to four working days via a direct flight and will be used to support local epidemic prevention, according to the provincial foreign affairs office.

By May 13, Hainan had donated medical supplies to its 36 sister cities and regions in 23 countries.

The donations, including 786,800 disposable medical masks, 20,000 KN95 masks, 1,000 medical protective clothing, 1,000 bottles of disinfectants, and 50,000 pairs of disposable medical gloves, totaled more than 2.65 million yuan (about 373,300 U.S. dollars).

Hainan has 64 international sister cities and began the sister city relationship with the State of Penang in 2013.
