On June 14, Dai Zhen, Director-General of the Foreign Affairs Office of Hainan Province, met in Haikou with Shambhu L. Hakki, Consul General of India in Guangzhou. This was Hakki's first official visit to Hainan.

Dai said that at present, the Hainan Free Trade Port (FTP) is making strides in a rapid and steady manner, and the rule-based, internationalized and facilitating business environment has continued to improve, attracting great attention from the international community and settlement of domestic and foreign companies one after another. The development of the FTP brings broad space for cooperation between Hainan and India. She suggested that the two sides enhance exchanges and  seek more cooperation opportunities by organizing meetings and visits; promote pragmatic cooperation in healthcare and IT industries based on their distinctive advantages; and explore the possibility to establish sisterhood relations to further strengthen cultural and people-to-people exchanges.

Hakki responded positively to Dai's proposals. He said that India has rich experience in pharmaceutical and IT industries, and the Consulate General will encourage Indian companies and business associations to visit Hainan and promote win-win cooperation. India and China have splendid cultures, and it is also hoped that the two sides jointly push forward cultural exchanges to increase mutual understanding and friendship.
