On the morning of February 17^th (UTC-3), Sanya City, Hainan Province and Punta del Este, Maldonado Department jointly signed a sister city agreement to establish friendly relations between the two cities, making Punta del Este Sanya’s 15th international sister city. Both sides will leverage the new relationship as an opportunity to further expand exchanges and cooperation in areas such as trade, tourism, culture, exhibitions, agriculture, etc., promoting young talent exchanges and deepening the friendly relations between the two cities.

Maldonado Department, a major economic and tourism region on Uruguay’s east coast, is rich in tourism resources, with beautiful natural landscapes. It is famous for its endless gentle sandy beaches, numerous historical sights, and artistic treasures. The city of Punta del Este, located in the Department, has a well-established and high-level tourism service and exhibition industry thanks to early planning and development. It is a world-renowned resort destination and also a host city for large-scale international conferences in the Americas.
