China-ASEAN Clean Energy Week inaugurates in Hainan

On September 19, the 1st China-ASEAN Clean Energy Week organized by National Energy Administration of China, People’s Government of Hainan Province and Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of Indonesia was opened in Haikou. Leaders attended the Opening Ceremony and related events included Hainan provincial leaders, such as Feng Fei, Secretary of Hainan Provincial Committee of the CPC and Liu Xiaoming, Governor of Hainan Province; Zhang Jianhua, Administrator of National Energy Administration of China; Kao Kim Hourn, Secretary-general of ASEAN; Arifin Tasrif, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources of Indonesia; Low Yen Ling, Minister of State for the Ministry of Trade and Industry and Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth of Singapore.

On behalf of Hainan Provincial Committee of the CPC and Hainan Provincial People's Government, Feng Fei extended his warm welcome and sincere gratitude to all guests attending the event in his speech. He noted that hosting the 1st China-ASEAN Clean Energy Week in Hainan is not only an important move to upgrade China-ASEAN comprehensive strategic partnership, but also a powerful support to Hainan Free Trade Port development. Locating at the crucial juncture of China and ASEAN and the strategic fulcrum of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, Hainan is accelerating the development of a Free Trade Port with Chinese characteristics and global influence. To better serve and participate in the building of a closer China-ASEAN community of shared future, Hainan is focusing on building “Two Headquarters Bases”, “Two Hubs”, and “Two Networks”. Hainan will deepen cooperation with ASEAN countries in the industrial and supply chains of clean energy, such as offshore wind power, hydrogen power and energy storage. He also invited entrepreneurs to come to Hainan for business or vacation.

Zhang Jianhua introduced the important progress and future measures for China-ASEAN clean energy cooperation. He noted that, this year marks the 10th anniversary of building a closer China-ASEAN community with a shared future and the Belt and Road Initiative initiated by President Xi Jinping. With fruitful progress in clean energy cooperation between China and ASEAN, China is willing to continue to work with ASEAN countries to strengthen pragmatic cooperation in areas including regional inter-connectivity, renewable energy, capacity building and green investment. Efforts will also be made to build the China-ASEAN Clean Energy Cooperation Center.

Launching ceremony of China-ASEAN clean energy cooperation projects was also held on the event, at which Governor Liu Xiaoming introduced the progress of Hainan Free Trade Port development to the audience.
