On September 15, Feng Fei, Secretary of the CPC Hainan Provincial Committee, met in Haikou with Sardar Mohammad Sakhawat Hossain, Minister of Health and Family Welfare of Bangladesh, and his delegation, who were in Hainan to attend the BFA Global Health Forum 2026 Haikou Conference.

Feng welcomed Hossain and his delegation and provided an update on the progress of the Hainan Free Trade Port (FTP), especially its healthcare sector. He emphasized that the development of the Hainan FTP is a key national strategy personally planned, deployed, and promoted by Chinese President Xi Jinping. Hainan is actively pursuing the Healthy China initiative, prioritizing public health in its growth plans. By achieving alignment with international standards in medical technology, equipment, and pharmaceuticals at the Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone, Hainan is making steady progress in opening up its medical sector at a high institutional level, enhancing its disease prevention and control systems, strengthening traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) health services, and pushing forward the development of Healthy Hainan.

Guided by the strategic leadership of China and Bangladesh, Hainan is willing to work with Bangladesh to enhance exchanges and cooperation in areas such as public health, tropical disease prevention and control, medical education, talent cultivation, TCM and traditional medicine, the healthcare sector, and thalassemia management, contributing to a China-Bangladesh community with a shared future in the new era.

Hossain commended Hainan's economic and social progress. He hoped the visit would strengthen friendly relations and collaboration with Hainan, foster mutual learning in healthcare, boost cooperation in medical education and talent development, improve primary healthcare through joint diagnosis and treatment, and enable both parties to explore joint development of the medical industry and supply chains to promote shared prosperity.
