Kampong Cham
Located by Mekong River, Kampong Cham is 125 kilometers from Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia. With an area of 9,799 square kilometers and a population of about 1.8 million, Kampong Cham is the largest and most populous province as well as an important trade center and a transportation hub in the country. It consists of 16 districts, 173 towns and 1,748 villages.
Kampong Cham is a mainly agricultural area which produces rice, corn, sesame, soy bean, cashew, fruits and rubber. In particular, the rubber plantations of Cambodia are mostly concentrated in Kampong Cham. In 2004, exports of rubber generated revenue of US$ 30.576 million and contributed US$ 4.93 million to the state coffers in tax revenues. With a well-developed road system, Kampong Cham trades extensively with other provinces of Cambodia and Vietnam and is one of the better-off provinces in the country.
