Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region (SNNPR)
Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region (SNNPR) is one of the nine ethnic divisions of Ethiopia. The SNNPR contains as many as 56 different groups with their own distinct languages, cultures, beliefs, traditions, rituals and social identities. The region borders Kenya to the south, South Sudan to the west, the Ethiopian region of Gambela to the northwest, and Oromia to the north and east. The regional capital is the city of Awassa, set on the shore of the Awassa lake, and much of the region lies in the relatively low-lying Rift Valley and Kenyan border area. The most important crop is coffee. Aside from the Rift Valley lakes, the most popular tourist attraction is the remote cultural tribes of South Omo zone.
